REPSShield vs REPStracker: A Smarter Alternative for 2026

REPStracker is the veteran REPS logbook — manual entries, a timer, and evidence uploads for $29/month. REPSShield finds your hours for you from your calendar and email, adds AI-assisted entries and audit-ready reporting, for $10/month. Here's the full comparison, with every fact checked on October 3, 2026.

At a glance

Choose REPSShield if you…

  • You'd rather have hours captured automatically from Google/Outlook calendars and Gmail/Outlook mail than log everything by hand.
  • You want AI-assisted entries, voice logging, and compliance tooling that reviews your log for audit risk — none of which we could find listed on REPStracker's site.
  • You want a web app plus Android (not mobile-only) at $10/month instead of $29/month.

Choose REPStracker if you…

  • You want the longest track record — it's been on the app stores since 2021 — and a simple, proven manual logbook.
  • You value its membership community, webinars, and access to tax experts, which we don't offer.
  • You're iPhone-first and want a native iOS app today; REPSShield doesn't have an App Store app yet.

Feature by feature

Logging & entries

REPStracker is a manual logger done well: type your entries by hand or run the built-in timer, and attach evidence photos to each entry. Spouse and team hours can be recorded in the same account. It's straightforward and it works — if you keep up with it. REPSShield starts from a different premise: most hours never get logged because logging is a chore. So it scans your connected Google and Outlook calendars and your Gmail and Outlook mail, and its AI drafts suggested entries from what it finds — you approve, edit, or decline each one. You can also log by voice (speak a description; the app transcribes it and parses out hours, dates, and activity type into a structured entry), run the built-in stopwatch, or type entries manually. You get 30 predefined activity types plus unlimited custom types you create yourself.

Automation & AI

This is the biggest gap between the two. We couldn't find any AI features, calendar integration, or email integration listed anywhere on REPStracker's site or store listings — no AI-assisted entry, no voice logging, no automatic capture. REPSShield's whole design is automation-first: calendar and email are read one-way (nothing is ever written back to your calendar or inbox), AI analyzes what it finds and proposes entries, and optional auto-approval switches can accept high-confidence suggestions on their own. Its Advisor and Compliance AI modes go further — Compliance audits your time entries for risk flags before your CPA ever sees them.

Integrations

REPStracker lists no integrations on its own properties — no calendar sync, no email sync, no booking-platform sync, no public API that we could find. REPSShield connects to Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook calendars, Gmail and Outlook mail, and Airbnb/Vrbo/Booking.com via iCal feeds. One design decision worth knowing: when a booking stay is detected, REPSShield creates a pending turnover check-in asking what work you did around the stay — a guest's stay is never auto-converted into your work hours. There's also a public API with scoped keys (time entries, properties, reports) for wiring REPSShield into your own tooling.

Compliance & reporting

Both apps are built for the same two tax strategies: Real Estate Professional Status (750+ hours and more than half your working time) and the STR material participation tests. REPStracker tracks REPS/STR progress in real time and lets you download all your time entries; the download format isn't specified on their listing. REPSShield tracks the 750-hour goal plus STR 100-hour and 500-hour material participation paths per property, with per-property math and grouping-election checks, and generates CPA-ready PDF reports — including a tax-year statement PDF and an AI compliance-audit PDF that breaks down findings by severity. You can also export a CSV of the year. Separate logins with roles (spouse, bookkeeper/accountant, tax professional — or your own custom roles) mean your CPA can get read-only access without sharing your password; REPStracker uses a same-account model instead.

Platforms & access

REPStracker is mobile-only as far as we could find: iPhone and Android apps, no web app listed. REPSShield runs on the web and Android, with an iPhone app marked coming soon — no App Store listing today. If you do most of your tracking on a phone, REPStracker's native iOS app is a genuine advantage right now; if you want a full keyboard-and-screen experience, the web app matters. For support, REPStracker lists email and phone contact plus its membership community. REPSShield offers in-app live chat with an AI first responder; there's no public self-serve help center.

Pricing, plainly

REPSShield Essential: $10/month or $100/year. 14-day free trial, then a limited free plan. A second tier, Shield Advisor ($29/month, $279/year), adds advisor-level AI guidance and compliance auditing.

REPStracker: $29/month or $23.17/month billed annually, per their own pricing page. 14-day free trial, no credit card required. No free plan listed.

The math: REPStracker's annual plan costs about $278/year versus REPSShield Essential at $100/year — roughly $178 more per year for a manual logbook with no automation or integrations listed.

Switching to REPSShield

  1. 1

    Download your history from REPStracker.

Their app lets you download all your time entries; the export format isn't specified, so save whatever file it gives you.

  2. 2

    Start your 14-day REPSShield trial

Add your properties — mark each long-term or short-term, and pick the 100-hour or 500-hour STR path where it applies.

  3. 3

    Import your history.

Open the CSV import in REPSShield and upload the file; the importer maps columns with AI and shows you the mapping to confirm before anything is created. If REPStracker's download isn't a CSV, open it in any spreadsheet app and save it as CSV first.

  4. 4

    Connect your calendar and email

(Google, Outlook, Gmail) so past and future activity starts surfacing as suggested entries.

  5. 5

    Review the AI-suggested entries

Approve, edit, or decline each one. Nothing enters your log until you say so.

  6. 6

    Invite your spouse or CPA

With their own login and role, then generate your first CPA-ready PDF.

Switching from REPStracker? Keep your old reports as historical records — they’re the proof of what you logged before the move.
