REPSShield vs REPSLog: Compare the Two REPS Trackers

REPSLog is the most feature-complete REPS tracker we've found — a polished iPhone app, deep booking sync, and logging from ChatGPT. REPSShield takes a different path: automatic hour capture from your calendar and email, plus compliance auditing, at $10/month. An honest comparison, with every fact checked on October 3, 2026.A note on fairness: REPSLog publishes its own comparison of our two apps, and we've read it. Where it describes REPSShield, we've corrected the record below — no snark, just facts from our own product. Every REPSLog claim comes from their own site or listings, checked October 3, 2026.

At a glance

Choose REPSShield if you…

  • You want your email working for you too — REPSShield syncs Gmail and Outlook mail into suggested entries; we couldn't find email sync listed on REPSLog's site.
  • You want the lower price: $10/month ($100/year) versus REPSLog Starter at $14.99/month ($149.99/year).
  • You want compliance tooling that audits your entries for risk flags and per-property material-participation math with grouping-election checks.

Choose REPSLog if you…

  • You're iPhone-first: their native iOS app (on the App Store since January 2025, 4.9 stars from 184 ratings per their own listing) with a lock-screen timer is the best mobile experience in this category. We don't have an App Store app.
  • You host on Airbnb or Vrbo and want the deepest booking sync — 24 named booking sites plus any iCal feed, per their own comparison page.
  • You want to log hours by talking to ChatGPT or Claude, or need an MCP connector — both listed on their side, neither on ours.

Feature by feature

Logging & entries

REPSLog's logging is genuinely good. Their Play listing describes AI autofill — “say or type what you did and the app automatically fills in the property, category, duration, and description” — plus live voice logging where the entry fills in as you talk (on paid tiers; Starter and Premium “unlock voice logging”). A built-in timer with iPhone Live Activity covers on-site work, and CSV import on the web app brings in history. REPSShield's logging starts from capture rather than typing. Connect Google or Outlook calendar and Gmail or Outlook mail, and AI drafts suggested entries from your real activity — approve, edit, or decline each one. Voice entries transcribe your spoken description and parse out hours, dates, and activity type. There's a built-in stopwatch, manual entry, and CSV import with AI column mapping. On categories: REPSLog's comparison describes REPSShield as having “14 fixed categories” — our app ships 30 predefined activity types, and you can create unlimited custom types of your own.

Automation & AI

Both apps are AI-forward with different centers of gravity. REPSLog's AI speeds up manual logging: autofill, live voice, Smart Search across entries “by meaning, and by what is inside your receipts,” and AI Receipt and Document Reading that “writes a plain-language note for each receipt or PDF.” REPSShield's AI finds hours you'd otherwise miss: it reads calendar events and email threads (one-way — never writes back) and proposes entries, refines vague descriptions into audit-defensible language, and, in Compliance mode, audits your log for risk flags. Where REPSLog's comparison calls our voice “dictation only”: speak a description and you get back a transcribed, parsed, structured entry — hours, dates, and activity type extracted automatically.

Integrations

REPSLog's integrations are calendar-plus-bookings: Google and Microsoft 365 events become entries “in one tap,” and their booking sync covers 24 named booking sites plus any iCal link. We couldn't find email sync listed. REPSShield covers Google and Outlook calendars plus Gmail and Outlook mail — the email half is the differentiator. On bookings, both take iCal feeds but handle stays differently: per REPSLog's own comparison page, each turnover “shows up as a suggested entry”; REPSShield creates a pending turnover check-in asking what work you did around the stay. A guest's stay is never auto-converted into your work hours — because the stay wasn't your work. Both offer a public API with scoped keys; REPSLog additionally lists an MCP connector, which we don't offer.

Compliance & reporting

Both apps take the STR side seriously. REPSLog gives “every short-term rental its own 100 or 500-hour counter, separate from your long-term rentals,” with CPA-ready export of “one tax year as PDF and CSV, split by LTR and STR, with receipts.” Participants (spouse, cleaner, property manager) can be tracked per entry, and Team Access invites a spouse, assistant, property manager, or CPA with read-only or full access. REPSShield tracks the 750-hour REPS goal and 100-hour / 500-hour STR paths per property, with per-property material-participation math and grouping-election checks in its compliance engine. Reporting includes a tax-year statement PDF, an AI compliance-audit PDF with findings broken down by severity, and CSV export, with receipts, photos, and documents attached as evidence with AI analysis. Team members get separate logins with roles — including read-only CPA access — and spousal hours pool under IRS attribution rules.

Platforms & access

This is REPSLog's clearest win and we won't pretend otherwise: a native iPhone app on the App Store since January 2025 (they publish a 4.9-star, 184-rating figure), Android with 500+ downloads, and web — all synced. REPSShield is web and Android today; our iPhone app is marked coming soon, with no App Store listing. If your tracking life happens on an iPhone, REPSLog is the better fit right now. REPSLog also lists a Help Center with step-by-step articles plus premium email support. REPSShield offers in-app live chat with an AI first responder; we don't have a public self-serve help center.

Pricing, plainly

REPSShield Essential: $10/month or $100/year. 14-day free trial, then a limited free plan. Shield Advisor ($29/month, $279/year) adds advisor-level AI guidance and the compliance audit mode.

REPSLog Starter: $14.99/month or $149.99/year. Premium: $19.99/month or $199.99/year. 14-day free trial (“14-day free trial of everything” per their Play listing) and a free plan that “never expires.” Voice logging requires a paid tier.

The gap: REPSShield Essential ($100/year) runs about $50/year less than REPSLog Starter ($149.99/year) and about $100/year less than Premium ($199.99/year) — with email sync, team roles, and compliance auditing that REPSLog doesn't list, against their iPhone app, booking-sync depth, and ChatGPT/Claude logging that we don't offer.

Switching to REPSShield

  1. 1

Export your REPSLog history as CSV.

Their CPA-ready export covers “one tax year as PDF and CSV, split by LTR and STR” — use the CSV for the import and keep the PDF as your historical record.

  2. 2

    Start your 14-day REPSShield trial

Add your properties — long-term or short-term, with the 100-hour or 500-hour STR path on each STR.

  3. 3

    Import the CSV.

REPSShield's importer maps columns with AI and shows you the mapping to confirm before creating anything; match or create properties as you go.

  4. 4

    Connect Gmail/Outlook mail

The sync REPSLog doesn't list — plus Google/Outlook calendars, so historical and future activity surfaces as suggested entries.

  5. 5

    Connect your booking iCal feeds.

Note the behavior difference: stays arrive as pending turnover check-ins, never auto-logged as hours — confirm the work you actually did.

  6. 6

    Set up team logins

(spouse, CPA, bookkeeper) with roles, then generate your first CPA-ready PDF.

Switching from REPSLog? Keep your old reports as historical records — they’re the proof of what you logged before the move.
